It's something that happens every day but still seems special and exciting
every time, having a baby is a thrilling, somewhat scary experience that
USC Arcadia Hospital is proud to be a part of. We want to give you and
your family a wonderful start. Our maternity care center houses nine labor/delivery/recovery
suites, four labor rooms, and two operating rooms. We have taken pains
to plan for every contingency so that we can act fast in the event of
a complication during labor.
We Cater to Your Needs & Desires
Many expectant mothers have some idea of how they want their labor to be
and we work closely with our patients to make sure the birth experience
is as close to their vision as possible. Our beautiful, private and semi-private
suites are designed to facilitate a quick recovery so you and your baby
can return home and start your new lives together.
The maternity care is prepared to handle patient needs and emergencies
as they arise. Our state-of-the-art facility is outfitted with:
- 24-hour anesthesia coverage
- Registered nurses, OB technicians, and physicians on-call 24/7
- A Newborn nursery
- 17-bed Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
- A multidisciplinary team consisting of physicians, nurses, respiratory
therapists, social workers, pharmacists, dieticians, and occupational
therapists
- Fetal monitor displays in every room that are monitored from the nurses' station
- 24-bed couplet care unit designed for family-centered care in Berger Tower,
featuring 20 private rooms and two semi-private rooms.

Maternity Care Classes
USC Arcadia Hospital offers a number of exciting educational programs that
help families prepare for the arrival of a new baby and make important
decisions. Each class offers unique information, so we encourage you to
participate in as many classes as possible.
Baby Care and Soothing Class
During this virtual class, expectant parents will explore the “Understanding
Your Newborn” Student Handbook. Topics covered will include newborn
characteristics and behavior, sleep and feeding patterns, diapering and
bathing demonstrations, comforting techniques, baby safety, when to call
the doctor, transitioning to your new role as a parent, and a Q&A
session. You will be asked to use a doll or rolled blanket as your “baby”
while practicing hands-on exercises. Additionally you will be provided
with access to an informative
mobile app that will be a useful resource for new parents during the first months
after baby arrives.

Prepared Childbirth Class
This one day virtual course with follow up Q & A Session is essential
for all first-time expectant parents, as it will help to prepare you and
your partner for labor and delivery. Students receive an “Understanding
Birth” guidebook which explores the topics of the signs of labor,
when to go to the hospital, breathing techniques, relaxation and massage,
common medical procedures, including explanations of epidurals and cesarean
birth, the role of the labor support person, and insight into the hospital
and postpartum experience for both mother and baby. Additionally, you
will be given access to a
mobile app that will keep all of this information at your fingertips as you prepare
for and experience the birth of your baby.

Breastfeeding Class
During this virtual class, expectant parents will explore the “Understanding
Breastfeeding” Student Handbook. A Lactation Specialist will provide
you with information about the benefits of breastfeeding, how-to ensure
nutritive latch, healthy milk production, pumping success, storing of
human milk, prevention and relief of common problem and a Q&A session.
Your support person is encouraged to join us. You will be asked to use
a doll or rolled blanket as your “baby” while practicing hands-on
techniques for positioning your infant. Additionally, you will be provided
with access to an informative
mobile app to keep this important information at your fingertips before and during
your breastfeeding journey.

Breastfeeding Support Group "Mommy & Baby Bistro"
On an interim basis, the Mommy and Baby Bistro will meet every Wednesday from
10:30 - 11:30 a.m. via Zoom.
